Our girls’ team took on Coombe Hill Junior School, in the second round of the cup, in what would end up being a thrilling match with a nerve-racking end!

Our team arrived full of confidence after their win against St Joseph’s and from the start of the match they immediately went on the attack. With only 3 minutes on the clock, Alana opened the scoring with a brilliant low strike past the keeper. Not long after, Alana got her second of the night after sprinting through the Coombe Hill defenders and slotting the ball home. Then came her hat trick when, once again on the counter attack, Rosie played in a brilliantly executed through-ball to Alana who went around the keeper to make it 3-0. Coombe Hill scored 5 minutes later after attacking straight from a goal kick with the ball flying past everyone in defence straight to the attacker who hit the ball home. Our team didn’t falter as they continued to press forward and Alana scored her fourth goal of the game (and 7 goals in 2 matches for her). A couple of minutes before half time, Coombe Hill pulled another one back with a sensational strike that was unstoppable.

Into the second half our team started as strongly as in the first half, pressing for a fifth goal but as the game progressed Coombe Hill became more confident and grew into the game, pegging back our attacks; their midfield and attackers took more shots from a longer range and Caza pulled off some amazing saves to keep the game 4-2. Despite our best efforts to keep out their attacks, our resolve broke 11 minutes from time when, despite some good defending, Coombe Hill scored amazing shot that hit the top left corner. The last 10 minutes were nail biting as Coombe Hill kept on attacking, but some great defending from Kelsey, Isabelle and Steffi kept them out and despite the wind and rain, our team stuck together encouraging each other until the final whistle finally went with a sigh of relief all round that we had held on.

We now await our opponents in the quarter finals.

 Goals: Alana 4
