Staffing Updates
Firstly this week, I would like to update you with some staffing changes for the next academic year.
After thirteen years at King's Oak, Mrs Vivian will be sadly leaving us at the end of term. She has been an amazing champion for SEND in the school and her knowledge, compassion, understanding and skill in SEND matters will be hugely missed. We wish her well as she takes on further challenges at a specialist SEN school in the local area. As soon as we know who will be taking on this vital role in the school we will let you know.
Also leaving us at the end of term is Mrs Hawthorne. Although she has only been with us for two years, she has made a massive impact via the behaviour and pastoral support that she has given to children and families from across the school. She too is leaving to develop her career in SEND and will be supporting families in another local school.
I know that you will wish to join me in acknowledging the phenomenal impact that they have both had I will share information about how you can contribute to their farewell in the next few weeks.
Year 1 and 2 Girls Football Tournament
A squad of nine girls from Year 1 and Year 2 (Key Stage 1) represented King's Oak on Wednesday at the Kingston School Sport Partnership and AFC Girls' Football Festival. The girls played 5 - a-side games against other local schools. 12 schools attended overall and we played three matches - against a team of girls from Corpus Christi, Fern Hill and Latchmere schools. All of the girls made us proud. We won two of the three games. All of the girls were so supportive to each other - cheering each other on and working as a team, both on the field and off. Their behaviour was amazing, they had lots of fun and represented the school so well managing to score a huge number of goals along the way! Well done everyone.
Healthy Eating Week
Thank you to everyone for your support for our Healthy Eating Week non-uniform day today. You can see above some of the great donations of tinned tomatoes that we received and also nearly £200 in cash for Brite Box.
Please can I also remind you about the Brite Box Big Cook event which is taking place this weekend. They want to try and break the world record for the largest group of people cooking and eating the same meal at the same time. Between 7th to the 9th June they want to get over 2000 households cooking. You can find more details and the recipe you need to follow at this link. Hopefully with our existing Brite Box families and some more participants, we can help them break the record! Don't forget to let them know if you have taken part.
Next week, pupils will be completing a range of activities around healthy eating - if your child has a packed lunch, if you could try and support this with your meal choices for the week, that would be very much appreciated.
Scootability
Thanks to our links with the school Superzone project, all children in Year 3 and Year 4 were able to take part in a scooter training session. The sessions were delivered by an organisation called Team Rubicon and the children were given lots of fantastic health and safety guidance and taught key skills for how to ride a scooter safely and with control. The children loved this opportunity and hopefully it will make the pavements around the school safer too!
Caterlink Survey
Our school catering company, Caterlink, would like to get some feedback from parents about the quality of the service that they provide to us. They came in recently and did a feedback event with the children and this is now your chance to share your views on our school meals. If you would like to participate, please follow this link to complete their survey - the closing date is the 31st July.
Kingston Cycling Event
The details have now been released about the next Kingston family cycle. Register for your free place on tiny.cc/FunRideJuly24.
Have a wonderful weekend - see you next week.
