Class Assembly dates
The dates for our programme of class assemblies have now been added to the school calendar. When your child's class has their assembly you are invited to watch the presentation, these will all take place in the old hall and will start just after 9:00. I very much hope that you will be able to join us for these celebrations of learning and fun!
Polio Booster Vaccination Programme
Following the detection of polio virus in sewage samples taken from North and East London, the NHS is offering all 1-9 year olds in London a polio booster vaccination. For some children this may be an extra dose of polio vaccine, on top of their routine vaccinations. In other children it may just bring them up to date. Polio is an infection caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system – it can cause permanent paralysis of muscles. Because of the success of the polio vaccination programme, there have been no cases of natural polio infection in the UK since 1984. By giving an extra polio vaccine dose, this will boost each child’s protection.
The polio vaccine is safe and effective. The NHS in London has contacted parents to come forward for a booster or catch-up polio dose - parents should take up the offer as soon as possible.
Where can you get vaccinated?
Parents in South West London have been contacted by the NHS to ask them to book an appointment.

New Staff Member
Some of you will have already met Mrs Hawthorne who has joined the school this term. Her role is to support the school with pastoral support and ensure that children are thriving and making progress in school. Please make sure that you say hello and make her feel welcomed into our community.
Fiona Hawthorne
I am delighted to have recently joined the staff, children and families at King's Oak Primary School.
I have worked as a teacher for 17 years in schools in Kingston and Surrey, where I was a teacher and then became a member of the Senior Leadership Team and had responsibility for the Safeguarding and Wellbeing of the children. More recently I have worked as a Specialist Practitioner for Children with SEND at Achieving for Children supporting families whose children had received a diagnosis of Autism.
I am passionate about all children reaching their potential in a safe and nurturing environment.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my children and family, walking my dog and visiting places of interest.
I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and your children soon.
Emotional Literacy Support
This term we have brought back the ELSA drop-in during lunch times. It's brilliant that we're able to offer children support in how to talk about their feelings and what might be making them feel sad or worried. Together with Mrs Davis, our trained ELSA, they have the opportunity to talk about what is bothering them in a quiet, safe space and to learn coping strategies to use. If you notice your child is feeling down, please encourage them to come to the ELSA drop-in on the following days:
KS1: Tuesday and Thursdays
KS2: Monday, Wednesday and Fridays
Parent Staff Association (PSA)
We will be having our first PSA meeting of the academic year next Friday (23/09/22) morning at 9:00. Please come along if you would like to get involved and find out how we can all work together to support the school. We are very fortunate that we now have parents who are willing to take on some of the key roles but we still need more volunteers to make the events happen. I'll send a reminder email with more details and the space that we will be using for the meeting next week.
We held our memorial assembly this morning for the Queen and sang God Save The King to celebrate our new monarch. I hope that you all have a good Bank Holiday weekend and get to spend lots of time with your families. I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
