Non-Uniform Day for Turkey & Syria Earthquake Appeal
A massive thank you to everyone who participated today in our non-uniform day. This was to raise funds to support people in Turkey and Syria who have been affected by the devastating earthquake that took place on Monday. As always, the King’s Oak community has been incredibly generous and I am pleased to be able to let you know that we are able to send £1414 to the DEC appeal. Our thoughts are with all our families and friends who are affected by this crisis.
Governor Update
We held our Spring 1 full governing board meeting on Thursday evening. A proportion of the meeting was spent discussing recruitment for new members of the board. A current vacancy is for a parent governor. Attached with the newsletter today you will receive a leaflet with more information about this rewarding role within the school. I very much hope that someone can put themselves forward for this position. Please come and talk to me if you have any questions about being a school governor or want to find out more details ahead of an application - the deadline is Friday 3rd March.
Change to end of day timings
All schools in the UK are required to educate pupils for 32.5 hours per week. Based on our current school day for pupils in Reception to Year 6, we are 25 minutes short each week. To correct this, from after the half-term break, the school day will be extended for Reception to Year 6 pupils by 5 minutes. The school gates will still be open from 15:00 but children will now be dismissed at 15:15. I hope that for most of you this will have a minimal impact. If in the short term this gives you a problem with e.g. getting to a swimming lesson on time, please let me know and we’ll see how we can accommodate your needs. The start of the day will remain the same i.e school gates opening at 8:30 and classroom doors opening at 8:45.
HENRY - Healthy Start, Brighter Future
Please the information below from the HENRY programme which parents might find useful - we have received brilliant feedback from families who have already engaged with the programme. It is great to see that now all families who are part of the HENRY scheme can get to benefit from the Brite Box healthy food initiative.
Thanks for all the support this half-term. Wishing you all a great break from school. I look forward to seeing you on Monday 20th February for the start of the next half-term.
