Year 2

English, maths and science

In English, the children have been enjoying acting out scenes from The Three Little Pigs. They have also been learning to use conjunctions, and continuing to work on their use of expanded noun phrases when they are describing something in their writing.

The children have enjoyed learning about absorbent materials in science this week. They conducted an experiment involving different types of paper and drops of water from a pipette. They measured how many drops of water each different type of paper could absorb before breaking. They measured the absorbance of toilet paper, kitchen towel, blue paper hand towel, white A4 paper and greaseproof paper.

In maths, we have all been using part-part-whole models to represent addition and subtraction and using number bonds to 10 to add a single digit number to a 2 digit number.

After half- term we will be starting a new book called 'The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig' by Helen Oxenbury. In maths, the children will be using their bonds to 10 to help with addition and subtraction and learning to explain patterns when adding or subtracting 10.

After the break we will need boxes of all shapes and sizes (no bigger than 15x15) in our DT lessons. Any donations will be gratefully received. Please think of Year 2 when you put out your cardboard recycling.

Thank you in advance
