Year 5

It’s Christmas!

This week, we have been looking forward to Christmas; we have learned about how the Tudor’s celebrated and the customs and traditions they followed.  A Tudor Christmas began on Christmas Day and lasted until 6th January. During those twelve days, life in the Royal Tudor Court was colourful, extravagant and lively. Branches from evergreens like ivy, laurel, holly and fir were used to decorate homes and palaces. Christmas Day was a time for feasting; there could be up to 24 courses at the Court banquet! In 1523, King Henry VIII was believed to be the first monarch to have turkey for Christmas dinner.

However you celebrate Christmas we hope you have a special time and are able to relax and come back to school on Tuesday 7th January refreshed and ready for the term ahead. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from all the Year 5 team.
