As part of our learning about Ancient Egypt we have been designing and making Canopic jars. We used clay to make them and built on our knowledge and skills from Year 4 when we made a Greek pot. We rolled out coils of clay and placed them on top of each other to form the shape of our pot. We smoothed the coils into each other and then burnished the sides with a wooded tool to make them even smoother. We added surface decoration by adding in hieroglyphs and symbols such as the Ankh. When they had dried out we added colour using paint. We are really proud of what we have achieved and think they look great. Next week, we will be sorting through old exercise books. Please send your child in with a bag for life (or similar) so they can bring them home.
