Year 5

Everest
This week, we started reading our new book which links in with our topic; Everest, the remarkable story of Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay. We read the foreword which was written by Ranulph Fiennes and discovered who he was and his achievements in the field of mountaineering and exploration. We started reading about how inhospitable Everest is and discovered new vocabulary such as ‘buffet’ (as in wind repeatedly striking) and crevasse (a deep open crack often found in a glacier). Next week, we will be learning about the life of Edmund Hillary and looking at biographies to enable us to write our own biographies on the life of this remarkable pioneer of exploration.
