Year 6

Evacuee empaths

This week we have been learning about what it was like to be a child who was evacuated during World War 2. In our topic lessons we have been comparing different sources of evidence. We have looked at newspaper articles, witness statements and have listened to recorded interviews. The information from the newspaper article was very different to the picture painted by the witness statement and recorded interviews from actual evacuees. Our text for the term, Letters from the Lighthouse, has a character who is evacuated from London to the Devon countryside so we have been able to compare our story to the historical sources. We think the author really did her homework. We have realised we have a lot to be grateful for in our lives. Next week, we will be looking at the changes that occurred to childrens' day-to-day lives during World War 2.
