Year 2
DT - strong, stiff and stable structures.
The children have been experimenting with paper and cardboard to see how to create a strong, stiff and stable structure.
They looked at corrugation in cardboard and replicated it by making triangle columns, square columns and circular columns. Horizontally, the structures were not very strong but if they were turned vertically then the children were able to balance their school books on top of them.
Afterwards, the children designed and drew a plan of the house they would like to make for the animals to live in, thinking about how to make it as strong, stiff and stable as possible.
Please send in any spare, empty cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, cereal boxes, cylindrical cardboard packaging or any other interesting shapes cardboard packaging you might have in your recycling pile.
