Year 5
A balanced argument.
This week, we have been focusing on how to write a balanced argument. We have focused on the character, Dr Kalmenius from the book Clockwork, by Philip Pullman. We identified that the features of a balanced argument are differences in opinions, evidence and a conclusion which includes our own thoughts and ideas on the argument. We have been exploring whether Dr Kalmenius is a good or bad character. Some may argue he is good, whereas others argue he is a bad character. We have been using retrieval skills to source evidence from the text to support our opinions. With a range of independent, paired and group work, we have collated a range of opinions on the character and are ready to write our balanced argument next week!
